The question constantly comes up: "What state can field the best Quake team?"

Well, we're finally going to find out. Introducing the PG QuakeLive State of Origin!

The quick facts:

QuakeLive Pro TDM (4v4)
6 teams
Signup's close 24th of June
Captains announce teams no later than the 28th of June
Games start 29th of June
Two groups with three states
All matches are best of three

State of Origin:

NSW: New South Wales
QLD: Queensland
VICTAS: Victoria + Tasmania
SA: South Australia
WA: Western Australia
NZ: New Zealand

Yes we realise that New Zealand is actually a different country, but this gives us the chance to show them how to play Quake!

Teams consist of:

1 x captain (player)
1 x vice captain (player)
2 x players
2 x reserves

Schedule:

15/06/2009 - Open player signups
24/06/2009 - Close player signups. Assign captains
28/06/2009 - Captains announce teams by this date
29/06/2009 -> 05/07/2009 - Round 1 (Games forced on the 5th)
06/07/2009 -> 12/07/2009 - Round 2 (Games forced on the 12th)
13/07/2009 -> 19/07/2009 - Round 3 (Games forced on the 19th)
20/07/2009 -> 26/07/2009 - Round 4 / Grand Final and Placing play off's (Games forced on the 26th)

Tournament Format:

Servers: PremiumGamer (Sydney) QuakeLive Pro TDM
Maps: qzdm6, qzdm7, qzdm14
Matches: Best of 3
Timelimit: 20 minutes per map (QL Pro TDM default)
Overtime: Sudden death (QL Pro TDM default)

The six teams will be split in to groups as below:

Group 1:

(1) NSW
(2) VICTAS
(3) NZ

Group 2:

(1) QLD
(2) SA
(3) WA

The teams will play 3 rounds, which will determine who they end up playing in either the Grand Final or the Placing play off's.

Round 1: 29/06/2009 -> 05/07/2009

NSW and QLD have byes
Group 1: VICTAS vs NZ
Group 2: SA vs WA

Round 2: 06/07/2009 -> 12/07/2009

VICTAS and SA have byes
Group 1: NZ vs NSW
Group 2: WA vs QLD

Round 3: 13/07/2009 -> 19/07/2009

NZ and WA have byes
Group 1: NSW vs VICTAS
Group 2: QLD vs WA

Round 4 (Grand Final & Placing playoffs): 20/07/2009 -> 26/07/2009

1st from Group 1 vs 1st from Group 2 (winner & second place decider)
2nd from Group 1 vs 2nd from Group 2 (3rd and 4th place decider)
3rd from Group 1 vs 3rd from Group 2 (5th and 6th place decider)

In the event of a 3 way tie (1 match win each), the group placings will be determined by map wins. If there is still a tie, it will come down to frags.

Note: If numbers are short (for player signups or captain signups, the idea will canned until we feel the community can support an event like this. Get signing up!

Captains:

PremiumGamer will select captains out of the pool of players who have opted for the role. Players are selected based on community knowledge and history of the game (including Q3).

Captains will be responsible for selecting a vice captain, players and reserves for there state. They will also be responsible for organising matches with the captains of other states and posting results.

        It's supposed to be a prestigious event, that showcases the best talents from each state. This is the sort of event that should entice players to get better at the game, so they can get the chance to represent there state!

  Unfortunately, the Pro TDM servers only have 8 player spots. This means there won't be any spaces for spectators / casters.
  
  This is one of the reasons I chose Pro TDM, because once both teams are in, its impossible to be interupted.
